IWF - Supporting Mary Chen & 2010 Healthy Schools Act
March 25, 2010
Honorable Mary M. Cheh
Councilmember, District of Columbia
1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Suite 108
Washington, DC 20004
Dear Honorable Cheh:
We want to commend you and your staff for the leadership on the authoring and leading the efforts on the Healthy Schools Act. As you know the District of Columbia has the highest rate of obesity in youth in the nation. We have experienced it first-hand by teaching TOTAL WELLNESS in four district schools with over 500 students this past year.
Infinity Wellness Foundation is a dynamic non-profit organization dedicated to fighting childhood obesity in the District. Our programs integrates TOTAL WELLNESS with Health and Physical Education back into the school curriculum with innovative, non-traditional approach including, nutrition, yoga, Pilates, meditation, and non-competitive games – with the goal of transforming the student’s lifestyle.
The legislation you are sponsoring for District youth is needed to provide public policy push to address a serious problem. The legislation provides a framework for District schools to address a growing problem. We are especially gratified that the legislation has a nutrition component.
We are encouraging our contributors, partners, and trainers to support your efforts and, most importantly, send letters to their Councilmembers in support of the Healthy Schools Act. We wish you the best in your efforts!
Sincerely,
Tanya Colucci, Founder
